JLR has announced it has opened order books for their new electric-powered Range Rover, as the fossil-fuel free SUV undergoes prototype testing.

Whilst the model looks nearly identical to the standard petrol or hybrid powered versions of the well-known off-roader, the Range Rover Electric will be distinguished by “EV” hubcaps and a charging port.

Geraldine Ingham, Managing Director of Range Rover, noted that the all-electric model is set to be one of the most anticipated vehicles made by the brand.

She said: “Since going on sale in 2021 the latest generation Range Rover has set a new benchmark for desirability. Across the globe, we’re seeing the highest levels of client demand in our 53-year history.

“Because of this unprecedented success story, we’re now opening the official waiting list for the opportunity to be among the first to place a pre-order for the most anticipated Range Rover of recent times.”

Whilst JLR have yet to announce performance figures for the model, they have claimed that it will be similar to the current V8-powered example, which can accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds.

In addition, the company claimed that the Range Rover Electric will be the quietest and most refined model the brand has created.

Nevertheless, it is still set to be capable of performing well off-road, with JLR highlighting that it will be able to wade through water up to 850mm deep.

Don’t miss… Like the rest of the full-sized Range Rover lineup, the new Electric model will be built in JLR’s Solihull factory near Birmingham.

However, in a bid to reach net-zero by 2039, the company also noted that the batteries and electric drive units (EDUs) featured in the Range Rover Electric will be made in nearby Wolverhampton, rather than being imported like in many other models.

The Range Rover Electric is set to go on sale during 2024, with prototypes currently being tested in different countries such as Sweden and Dubai.
