One of the biggest arguments against electric vehicles is that they aren’t really environmentally friendly as the electricity that powers them comes mostly from non-renewable sources like coal. This is especially true in India, as thermal power plants make up over 70% of the total power generated in the country.

The EV industry is aware of this and is slowly moving towards greener sources of power charging stations. Glida has converted 28 of its chargers in Hyderabad to use green electricity.

According to the company, a project to procure “Green” Energy from the DISCOMs in Hyderabad was initiated in September. It is said that DISCOMs have established an enhanced tariff structure for providing green energy in comparison to the standard EV tariff, which varies from 44 paise/kWh to 230 paise/kWh from state to state.

Approximately 35% of the energy dispensed by their charging stations in the month of October 2023 came from renewable sources.
