The Rimac Nevera is one of the world’s fastest production cars, recently breaking more than 20 records in a single day.<\/p>\n
Now though, the Nevera has added another world record to its list. The Nevera now holds a Guinness World Record for the fastest speed achieved by a production car in reverse. The electric hypercar managed to reach 170 mph (274 km\/h) in reverse.<\/p>\n
The run took place at the Automotive Testing Papenburg Centre, Germany – featuring two 4 km straights. The record-setting car was driven by Rimac’s test driver Goran Drndak.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the record run, Matija Renic, Chief Engineer, Nevera called it “uncharted territory”. He said, “It occurred to us during development that Nevera would probably be the world\u2019s fastest car in reverse, but we kind of laughed it off. The aerodynamics, cooling and stability hadn\u2019t been engineered for travelling backwards at speed, after all. But then we started to talk about how fun it would be to give it a shot. Our simulations showed that we could achieve well over 150mph, but we didn\u2019t have much of an idea how stable it would be.”<\/p>\n
Test driver Goran Drndak said, “You\u2019re facing straight out backwards watching the scenery flash away from you faster and faster, feeling your neck pulled forwards in almost the same sensation you would normally get under heavy braking.” He also mentioned how demanding the run was, from moving the steering wheel ever so gently, to being mindful of the braking point and keeping an eye on the speed.<\/p>\n
The record-setting Rimac Nevera wore the same Green & Black ‘Time Attack’ Edition livery as the previous record-breaking model – 12 of which are available for customers to purchase.<\/p>\n
