The combination of the petrol unit and electric powertrain will ensure the Ranger PHEV will be the torquiest Ranger you can buy, although maximum towing capacity is targeted at 3,500kg – which is the same as the diesel Ranger.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The plug-in hybrid system will enable Ford to add its \u2018Pro Power Onboard\u2019 system to the Ranger. This allows for vehicle-to-load charging of power tools and appliances. Hans Schep, general manager, Ford\u00a0Pro, Europe says, \u201cwith Pro Power Onboard for the first time, Ranger owners can power their work sites and campsites easily.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Given the potential of electric-only running, we expect tweaks to the Ranger\u2019s infotainment system. On the previous Transit Custom PHEV, there was an energy flow display and the range in the driver\u2019s trip computer would show EV range as an extra figure next to the petrol engine\u2019s range. But since the Ranger has the latest SYNC4 infotainment system, expect more in-depth information this time around.<\/p>\n
