After starting and finishing P10, Sebastian Vettel says he doesn’t know why he struggled so much at the British Grand Prix.
The German failed to get to grips with his Ferrari all weekend. After practice sessions filled with issues, he only just made it into Q3 on Saturday and had to use the soft tyre to do so.
He was the slowest of the top 10 there and thus started the race in P10. His pace was then so poor that he actually dropped further back and actually finished with a point due to punctures ahead of him.
While he admits he didn’t perform well, Vettel doesn’t yet fully know why.
“The result was very poor, but the car was very difficult to drive,” he said in the paddock post-race.
“I struggled a lot to find my confidence and I don’t know why, so we need to have a good look.
“If I struggle for so many laps in the race – from the beginning until the end – then there’s something that doesn’t stack up.”

Starting behind the Renault, Vettel would have been hoping to make up some places in the race. Instead, he was passed by both Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon.
He says that there’s nothing more he could do given how his car behaved.
“It was not a stressful race. I just didn’t have a chance,” he added.
“People around me were faster than me, I got overtaken, it was very difficult to stay on track, so physically it wasn’t a tough race at all because I couldn’t attack. The car didn’t allow me too.”
“Now we need to have a look at why. Obviously we have the next weekend here so we can try and do better.”
Vettel’s confusion will undoubtedly grow due to the fact that his team-mate Charles Leclerc managed to finish in P3 and said he was “very happy” with the balance of the car throughout the weekend.
However, with rumours suggesting that his move to Aston Martin will be announced imminently, he may not have to worry about matters at the Italian team for much longer.
