The burned remans of Justin Bonnett’s Late Model car following Saturday’s night’s fiery crash at Pensacola, Florida.
Justin Bonnett, the grandson of the late NASCAR great Neil Bonnett suffered a broken leg and burns to the face, neck and hands in a fiery crash on Saturday night at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
Bonnett was racing in the Snowflake 100, part of the undercard for Sunday’s main event, the annual Snowball Derby. He appeared to make contact with the a spinning car of Jarrett Parker, and Bonnett’s No. 12 quickly became engulfed in flames.
Bonnett was transported to a hospital in Mobile, Alabama, where he was scheduled for surgery on Sunday, according to posts made to his Facebook account.
Neil Bonnett, an 18-time winner at NASCAR’s highest level, raced in the NASCAR Cup Series from 1974 until his death in 1994. He was killed in a crash during a practice run ahead of the 1994 Daytona 500.
