Campos Racing F3 driver Alex Peroni will sit out Race 2 of the F3 series in Monza Sunday after FIA officials declared the driver unfit following a spectacular crash in Saturday’s F3 Race 1.

Peroni hit a sausage curb bordering the run-off area at Monza’s final Parabolica corner during Saturday’s race; the car went airborne before landing on the barriers and hitting the catch fencing. Peroni visited the circuit medical center before being sent to hospital for precautionary checks. He was later found to have a fractured vertebra. The Formula 3 race was completed under the safety car, with victory going to Robert Shwartzman.

The start of Formula 1 third practice was delayed by 10 minutes while what was left of the curb was removed and the barriers and fencing repaired. Drivers were then told not to exceed track limits at turn 11. Those who do will have their lap times deleted.

The crash comes a week after F2 driver Anthoine Hubert was killed in a crash at Spa.
