Scuderia Toro Rosso boss backs his drivers after surprise F1 streak

Scuderia Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost is happy to keep drivers Daniil Kvyat and Alex Albon at his Formula 1 team through next year after another strong showing at the German Grand Prix — the boss suitably impressed with the pairing.

Scoring only the team’s second podium result with third-place at the German Grand Prix — a streak that includes their previous incarnation as Minardi from 1985 to 2005 — it would have been understandable had there been a few sore heads in the Toro Rosso camp on Monday morning, but Tost told Sky Sports that back to back races left no time to celebrate.

“No seriously, we didn’t have time because a back-to-back race, there’s a time schedule,” Tost said. “Part of the team had to go to the airport, the other part disassembled everything at the track and went to Budapest. That’s how it is in Formula 1.”

Speaking about the rejuvenated Kvyat, who returned to the Red Bull family after spending time as a reserve driver for Ferrari, Tost added:

“Daniil, from the very beginning onwards this season, was quite mature, was much more focused and concentrated. I must say that he is doing a really good job and I am enjoying seeing his progress. I hope he can continue like this.”
