Graham Rahal is in for Alexander Rossi at Acura Team Penske for Petit Le Mans.
Team Penske has once again called on Graham Rahal to drive its IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype, this time in next month’s season-ending Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
Rahal will step into the 10-hour endurance classic for fellow IndyCar driver Alexander Rossi, who will be racing in Australia at the Bathurst 1000. He will co-pilot the No. 7 Acura ARX-O5 DPi alongside Helio Castroneves and Ricky Taylor.
“It will be great to team up with Helio and Ricky again as they close out the season, and we’ll be working to get the best possible result to help Acura lock up several championships that weekend,” Rahal said. “I really enjoyed working with Acura and everyone at Team Penske last year, and I have missed racing with them this season. But when this opportunity came up for Petit Le Mans, it was an easy decision. I hope I can help them win one of the biggest races of the year.”
Rahal previously raced for Penske’s IMSA program at Daytona, Sebring and Road America. His best result came at Road America, where he led 128 laps and finished fifth. The team led laps in all three of the races that Rahal participated in.
Penske is working toward a drivers’ and team championship on Oct. 12 with the No. 6 driven by Juan Pablo Montoya and Dane Cameron holding a seven-point lead over the Whelen Engineering Action Express Racing No. 31 piloted by Felipe Nasr and Pipo Derani.
The No. 7 car is in a third-place tie with the No. 55 of Mazda Team Joest Racing.
