The Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich season kicks off in Alabama with an open test on March 2.
After a one-year hiatus, Spring Training is returning to the Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup schedule in 2020.
The one-day session slated for March 2 at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Alabama, will give teams not only a first open test session but also a chance to acquaint or reacquaint themselves with series rules and procedures ahead of the official season opener April 3-4 at Barber.
“We are proud to continue with a consistent schedule that travels to some of the best circuits for our Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich Tires racers,” said John Doonan, director Mazda Motorsports. “A real highlight will be that the series will continue to honor Alana Long in perpetuity at Road America. We are not only proud of the level of competition in the series, but also the sense of camaraderie and family that exists in the paddock.
“We only just finished the season at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, but we are already anxious to kick the season off at Barber Motorsports Park.”
Long, who lost her battle with cancer in April, was the matriarch of the Long family and is survived by her husband, Glenn, and sons Tom and Chris. Operated by Glenn Long, Long Road Racing deep history with Mazda Motorsports and is the constructor of the Global Mazda MX-5 Cup car.
The schedule includes the same six venues as those that appeared on the 2019 schedule.
