Generally, when you think of a car with a wide body, you likely think of reworked fenders or added fender flares. Well, the folks at Garage 54 decided to take a different approach to the wide-body treatment and stuck two Lada sedans together. You might remember the mad scientists from Garage 54 from their translucent oil pan and engine covers, plastic pistons, or the hilarious tiny-wheeled Hummer H2. This wide-body Lada is a little less of a technical exploration and more of an adventure in chaos.
The sacrificial Ladas are both former test vehicles for the Garage 54 team, which means they aren’t exactly the nicest examples in the world. This likely made the decision to slice a few inches from each car and stick them together an easy one. And while the Garage 54 team did remove the wheels and the front suspension from the sides that are now permanently fixed together, the technical overhaul stops there. Both cars retain their independent powertrains, which makes for an interesting driving situation.
As you would imagine, this is not ideal for driving a car alone. As such, this widened Lada needs a pair of drivers to attend to their respective throttles. The steering systems are connected, but not robustly. As such, the drivers independently steer, too.
OK, we doubt that this wide-body trend has as much staying power as the traditional wide-body look. We also don’t think that this trend will take off as the clear oil pans should. We just enjoy how the folks at Garage 54 take our wildest dreams and turn them into respectably wild realities.
