If you weren’t already upset by Hyundai’s refusal to bring the Veloster N to our shores, this news piece might just do the trick. What you’re looking at is the Veloster N Performance Concept, and it looks awfully serious.
It’s another of Hyundai’s SEMA 2019 show cars, set to be displayed alongside the amazing iMax 9 drift MPV and the fantastically silly Veloster Grappler mini monster truck. Using the i30 N-related Veloster N as a starting point, it’s been liberally coated in “OEM-quality performance additions,” Hyundai says.
Let’s start with the obvious bits. From KWA we have a new front splitter, rear wing, rear diffuser plus side skirts to aid both downforce and visual badassery, plus a sizeable bonnet vent. The forged wheels are supplied by OZ, measuring 19 inches in diameter and finished with some lovely N-branded carbon centre caps.
It’s much more than just an aesthetic exercise, though. Those OZ rims are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, aiding grip and traction considerably. The 380mm front brake discs are teamed up with six-piston Alcon calipers, while at the rear 360mm rotors are squeezed by four-pot calipers.
Take a peek underneath, and you’ll spy Daewon anti-roll bars front and rear, Extreme Racing dampers with H&R springs, and chassis bracing from WIF. So that the car sounds even moodier than the stock version, it’s been given extra volume via a Capristo cat-back exhaust.
Moving to the inside, you will – of course – find Alcantara. Everywhere. Most prominently, the material clads the carbonfibre sports seats, which are the work of Sabelt. There’s also a new aluminium gear knob, a red starter button, and several splashes of orange.
There are no plans to put the Veloster N Performance Concept into production, but you may well be able to buy some of these bits for your standard Veloster N in the future. “These bolt-on accessories are designed to have high potential for aftermarket availability,” Hyundai says.
