Royal Enfield’s first electric bike is expected to be based on the Electrik01 concept.
Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director & CEO of Eicher Motors, has stated that the first Royal Enfield electric motorcycle will debut in the next 2-years.
Lal revealed that Royal Enfield is currently testing the prototype and that a team was looking into the commercial side of the EV business.
Speaking of which, as per Royal Enfield CEO B Govindarajan, the company has hired around 100 people who are dedicatedly working in the EV space. It is planning a production capacity of 1-1.5 lakh units for EVs at the existing facility.
Reports suggest that the Royal Enfield electric bike will be based on a new 96V architecture, known internally as the ‘L-platform’. It is expected to borrow design cues from the Electrik01 concept.
