Moving beyond its usual powerful 4×4 builds, the Chatsworth, California workshop Icon has now revisited a legendary 1950’s Chevrolet pickup to kickstart its Old School Edition Thriftmaster series.
This particular pickup started its life in the ’50s as a 3100 5-window farm truck weighing half a ton, and got its Thriftmaster name from the original six-cylinder engine Chevrolet crafted for the workhorse. For a more modern performance, Icon replaced the stock engine with a GM LS3 V8 tht can push out an impressive 430 horsepower with the help of a 4L85-E column-shifted automatic transmission. The chassis also has completely reworked, now receiving an independent front and rear suspension as well as a lower ride height and updated disc brakes from Wilwood. Of course, the exterior has also been painstakingly restored, finished in an olive green and off-white paint, extending into African teak food panels on the truck bed and saddle leather upholstery in the cabin.
