Audi Supercharges the EV Sedan Segment With the 2022 e-tron GT

Audi this summer is adding to the growing list of high-horsepower, all-electric sedans with its e-tron and RS e-tron. The pair bucks the electric-powered crossover trend, giving folks who still crave the high-end luxury sport-sedan experience a stylish battery-powered option.

Powering the base e-tron GT are two electric motors producing a combined 469 hp. Jumping up to the more powerful RS variant bumps the net output to 590 hp. An overboost function, available on both models, bumps the e-tron GT up to 522 hp and the RS e-tron GT to 637 hp. Audi says these potent powertrains will rocket the base GT to 60 mph from a dead stop in 3.9-seconds—3.1-seconds with the RS variant. The top speed is capped at 152 and 155 respectively.

These unquestionably quick EV sedans should impress your neighbors with their performance, but there’s always more to a high-end sedan than just how quick it is. Audi wants you to rocket up to speed comfortably. While it looks like the seats are leather, Audi notes the standard car is leather-free. Customers can upgrade to Dinamica or Alcantara for an extra cost.

The interior design also positions the 10.1-inch infotainment screen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster towards the driver, the idea being to make the experience more driver-focused. While you’d expect the instrument cluster to point directly at the driver, the infotainment screen’s added tilt is meant to help keep your eyes from having to stray away from the road.

A standard three-chamber air suspension keeps your coffee stable at speed. According to Audi, this suspension can firm up when you need to tackle a racetrack, softens when you need to commute to work. All-wheel steering is standard on all e-tron models.

Audi says these new EVs come with a 93.4 kWh battery pack, which should translate to a roughly 238-mile range for the e-tron GT and 232 miles for the RS variant.

As you’d expect, these cars won’t be the most-affordable sedan at your local Audi dealer, but with a $99,900 sticker for the base e-tron GT, it puts it on par with the competition. The more powerful RS e-tron GT starts at $139,900. If you don’t have the money now, don’t worry, you have until summer before you start seeing these on the streets.
