Even though American brands such as Ford and Chevrolet are largely abandoning cars, other brands, such as Nissan, aren’t giving up on lower-slung cars just yet. The Sentra and Altima are still going strong, as is the brand’s flagship sedan, the Maxima. The 2021 Nissan Maxima SV starts at $37,915—$1,820 more than last year.
That price jump is mostly because Nissan simplified the Maxima lineup for 2021. Last year, the so-called “four-door sports car” was offered in six different trims. This year, that number is down to three, as the prior entry-level S trim is dead. Instead, the SV now stands in as the Maxima’s entry point, with SR and Platinum trims available for those in search of extra kit. The new trim structure means the 2021 Maxima now costs more than that of the Toyota Avalon, which starts at $36,870. Both cars come with standard V-6 power.
The Maxima SR starts at $43,075 and Platinum models are priced from $43,145. The posh 40th Anniversary Edition is a $2,125 optional extra for Platinum cars and comes with a host of exclusive bits to help it stand out from the crowd. Ruby Slate Gray Pearl paint with a black roof, a blacked-out grille, model-specific exhaust pipes, red semi-aniline leather seats with 40th Anniversary stitching, white gauges (cool!), and heated rear seats are just some of the goodies the 40th Anniversary car comes with.

If you’re looking for a feature-packed full-size sedan, then the Maxima is one of a few options left. The 2021 Maxima might be pricier than last year’s model, but it also packs more standard kit right out of the gate.
