Renntech has announced a new tuning package for the European-market Mercedes-AMG A45 hatchback, promising some serious power gains that bring the car into supercar-levels of power output.
The company’s Stage II tune, which includes an ECU remap and a new turbocharger, promises to extract an impressive 592 horsepower from the Mercedes M139 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine. Here’s a video of Renntech’s development car on the dyno:
This number is especially surprising given the engine was already the most powerful production four-cylinder ever, with 416 horses in its most potent factory trim. To squeeze an extra 176 without changing any internals is a wild feat. The company is still working out exhaust designs and other final touches, and expects to have the package on sale by the second quarter of 2020. Further details will be released once all of the specs are finalized.
In a statement, a Renntech representative told Road & Track it expects the package to be popular in the U.S. as well. While we’re not receiving the A45 hatch stateside, we’ll still be getting the CLA 45 sedan, which has the same engine. A near 600-horsepower pocket-rocket AMG sedan sounds like a fun time to us.
