Porsche’s sales have been on the rise this year, delivering 133,484 vehicles worldwide in the first half of 2019 – a 2% increase compared to the same period last year. The Macan SUV remains as the bestselling model with 47,367 deliveries, followed by the Cayenne at 41,725 units (a 45% increase).
In terms of market performance, Porsche sales grew 28% in China up to the end of June, whereas in Asia Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East, deliveries are up 20% to 57,397 vehicles. In the US, Porsche charted a 3% growth with sales totalling 30,257 units.
In total, sales revenue grew by 9% to 13.4 billion euros (RM61.47 billion) over the same period in 2019. The operating result before special items increased by 3% to 2.2 billion euros (RM10.1 billion). Porsche’s workforce also increased by 5% to 33,839 employees in the first half of 2019.
Porsche’s executive board chairman Oliver Blume said: “Our half-year result is a solid basis for a successful business year 2019. One success factor behind this is our attractive product range. In the first six months of this year, we have launched a range of innovative, emotive products onto the market with the new 911, the 911 Cabriolet, Cayenne Coupé, 911 Speedster, 935, 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4.”
In a press statement, Porsche said its outlook for the year seems promising, and expects deliveries to increase in the 2019 financial year. Sales will be contributed by new products, and that includes the Taycan, Porsche’s first all-electric sports car, which is said to arrive in dealerships at the end of the year.
The company is also expecting a slight increase in terms of sales revenue. Porsche’s deputy chairman and executive board member for finance and IT, Lutz Meschke said: “Despite very high investment in electrification, digital transformation, and in the expansion and renovation of our company locations, we aim to continue to meet the high earnings target of Porsche.”
