Ford has confirmed the UK price and specs for the all-new Focus ST ahead of its UK debut. The American carmaker’s updated performance hatchback will make its debut in Britain this month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2019. The performance-focused variants of the family car come with more up to 12 per cent more power available and 17 per cent more torque compared with the previous generation, according to Ford. Powering the car is a choice of 2.3-litre EcoBoost which delivers 280PS of power and 42Nm of torque.
This allows the car to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.7 seconds.
The 190PS 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel variant is the most powerful diesel engine ever offered for a Ford Focus and delivers up to 58.8mpg and 125g/km CO2emissions.
This variant is a little slower than the petrol car and used its 350Nm of torque to sprint from 0-62mph in just 7.6 seconds.
Pairing with the engine is a six-speed manual transmission which should make the experience more engaging.
“Intelligent technologies like eLSD and CCD make our all-new Focus ST the most ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ yet, able to switch from refined tourer to focussed performance car at the push of a button,” said Leo Roeks, Ford Performance director, Europe.
“We’ve incorporated learnings from programmes including our Ford GT supercar and the acclaimed Focus RS to develop a mid-size performance car with a degree of flexibility that’s unique in its segment.”
Focus ST 2.0-litre EcoBlue models feature Torque Vectoring Control technology, which improves road holding and reduces understeer by applying brake force to the inside front wheel when cornering.
The electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) system is 15 per cent faster than the standard Focus, requiring just two turns lock-to-lock.
There are a number of different driving modes which include Normal, Sport, Track and even a Slippery/Wet mode, which will change how the car performs and handles.
Inside the car are a sports steering wheel and Recaro seats with partial leather and ST badges dotted around.
There is also Ford’s SYNC 3 connectivity system which allows drivers to control audio, navigation and climate functions plus connected smartphones using simple voice commands supported by an eight-inch colour touchscreen.
This system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard and a digital instrument cluster display and a WiFi hotspot with the connectivity of up to 10 devices.
Its exterior styling has been mildly tweaked to give it a more aggressive, muscular and sporty design befitting of its nameplate.
There is a larger, more steeply angled rear roof spoiler, twin tailpipes, aggressive rear diffuser and if you upgrade to the performance pack then you also get red brake callipers.
It also comes with a number of driver assistance and safety systems which include Adaptive Cruise Control now enhanced with Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition and Lane-Centring, Ford’s Adaptive Front-Lighting System, Active Park Assist and a Head-Up Display.
The new Fiesta ST Ford Performance Edition is on sale now at £26,495, which is a three-door variant limited to 600 units.
The all-new Focus ST will make its UK dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, running in the Manufacturers Batch on Thursday 4th July.
