Rotsun: the Car That Never Fails To Fail!

The Rotsun first showed up in episode 25 of Roadkill in 2014. The rusted-out ’71 Datsun 240Z, at least for the first go-around, was powered by a Chevy 4.3-liter V-6 with a turbo swiped from a Ford 7.3-liter Powerstroke diesel. At its first outing it was expected to crush the competition at a nine-car autocross, but it broke and failed to even churn out one decent lap! Everyone loves an underdog, so maybe that’s why the Rotsun has always been such a fan-favorite.

The Rotsun’s 4.3-liter V-6 died a glorious death during a LeMONS race and a year later the Roadkill guys swapped in a 5.0-liter Ford engine (episode 64). Combined with much of the earlier turbo kit the upgrade bumped the Rotsun from an undependable 400 hp to a merely questionable 500 hp.
