She said there were “definitely some crossovers” between karting skills and driving on the road which could be a crucial experience. She added the two had “the same principles” with drivers able to get experience “balancing a brake and throttle” as well as steering and precision.

Miss Munnings said karting experience could be a “really good thing” for younger drivers who may be looking at lessons next year.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, she said: “I grew up driving old cars around fields but it’s the same thing.

“Anything with four wheels that you are driving is definitely helping you gain knowledge on how the vehicle works.

“Obviously a go-kart is very different to a car but I think is the same principles.

“You’re still balancing a brake and throttle, steering as well and it teaches you precision in that sense.

“I think there are definitely some crossovers and it’s a good thing to do.

“I know there’s a big backlog because of the virus, people want to do driving lessons now.

“I was watching my neighbour having exactly the same issue.

“Even if you’re 16 and thinking about driving next year I think it’s a really good thing.”

Miss Munnings said she used to visit Buckmore Park karting track as a youngster herself to perfect her braking abilities and driving lines.

She also attended skid-pan events and practised driving on ice to gain car control skills to drive rally cars at the highest level.
