The House of Commons Transport Select Committee has already published its report on zero-emission vehicles, with a road pricing report being worked on next. The Committee has already taken written evidence form stakeholders but attention will now turn to oral evidence this Autumn.

The Committee is then expected to publish a report a few months later outlining any possible changes.

The start of the oral evidence is set to correspond around the time Rishi Sunak is set to deliver his Autumn Budget on October 27.

The Transport Select Committee first launched their road pricing inquiry at the end of December 2020.

The inquiry was set to look at the possible economical, environmental and social impacts of introducing some form of road pricing.

The scheme was also set to look at which particular road pricing or pay-as-you-drive scheme would be most appropriate in the UK.

The inquiry is also expected to touch on the level of public support for the scheme and how public opinions need to be considered in the development of any projects.

The Transport Select Committee will also look at whether lessons can be learned from any other countries when introducing road pricing schemes.

The committee had demanded written evidence by February 2021 before they undertook a detailed analysis.

The Transport Select Committee also held an evidence session looking into road pricing in June.

This featured experts from across the motoring industry who looked at the possible benefits and drawbacks of a scheme.

The Transpro Select committee is looking into the scheme as a potential way to plug the “fiscal black hole” created by electric cars.
