Joining a crowded class of mid-size pickup trucks, the Ford Ranger is back for 2019 — but is it better than ever? Reviewer Brian Wong said the Ranger is definitely a fun one to drive, but that doesn’t mean the return of this well-loved truck is not without a few quirks.

One major consideration is that you don’t get many choices with this truck. There’s one wheelbase, and you have a choice between just SuperCrew (crew-cab) and SuperCab (extended-cab) configurations. The lone powertrain — a 270-horsepower turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission — is, thankfully, a good one.
“It absolutely crushes the base powertrains (and even some optional powertrains) of competitors,” Wong writes. “Hearing about a four-cylinder engine in a truck may cause some to wrinkle their nose, but it’s only because they haven’t tried this four-cylinder.”
