Alongside the GLC300e Coupé plug-in hybrid, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has also released an updated version of the Mercedes-AMG GLB35, which comes with a few new bits of kit. The additions help disguise a steep price hike over the outgoing model.

How steep? Try a figure of almost RM30,000, bringing the price of the performance five-seater SUV up to RM392,582 on-the-road without insurance. This includes the sales and service tax (SST) rebate valid until the end of the month; the car will cost RM405,888 with SST for orders made after July 1. Each purchase comes with a four-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

New for 2022 is the inclusion of a 360-degree camera system (only a reverse camera was fitted previously) and additional AMG buttons on the Nappa leather-wrapped AMG Performance steering wheel. The latter allow drivers to change the drive modes and adjust the settings for the AMG Ride Control adaptive dampers.

Also included is the MBUX Interior Assistant gesture control, which enables the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) to distinguish between driver and passenger touch inputs; it can also turn on the map light if they reach over towards the other side. Last but not least, the GLB35 is now fitted with AMG exterior logo projection, complementing the surround welcome and departure lighting.

Standard kit otherwise remains identical and includes Multibeam LED headlights, 20-inch black ten-spoke alloy wheels, aluminium roof rails, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, power-adjustable sports seats with memory, Artico faux leather and Dinamica microfibre upholstery, faux carbon fibre trim, red seat belts, 64-colour ambient lighting, park assist and a hands-free power tailgate.

As for infotainment, the GLB35 gets twin 10.25-inch instrument and infotainment displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a 10-speaker, 225-watt sound system (the Burmester setup is no longer fitted). Safety-wise, you get autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring and a door opening warning.

The GLB35 continues to be motivated by a 2.0 litre turobcharged four-cylinder engine, producing 306 PS from 5,800 to 6,100 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. It is mated to an eight-speed AMG Speedshift DCT dual-clutch transmission and AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system, allowing it to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
